On the positive side

AI SDRs are most alluring to modern sales teams because they can conduct outreach at scale. What was once a 250-300 lead outreach month for a human SDR is now thousands, thanks to automation and light personalization.

And when you can play the numbers game like AI, your Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) significantly decreases. There's no extra human labor driving outreach, and your volume of leads goes up. More outreach and lower costs mean a better CAC. The math doesn't lie.

Lastly, your AI isn't going to burn out. Sick days? Vacation? Your AI SDR is always clocked in, never missing a follow-up. It also adheres to your sales processes to the extent that you train it to.

Why sales leaders hesitate

The number one reason sales leaders hesitate to implement AI SDRs? Much like humans, AI SDRs can also make mistakes. Sometimes they misinterpret data or send out messages that are slightly wonky.

Leaders and sellers also criticize AI for their inability to build relationships and rapport. Humans can pick up on subtle emotional cues, and once the veil is lifted and the prospect knows they're talking to AI, you could risk getting some pushback and burning the deal.

It's also important for organizations to remember that AI SDRs, when improperly managed, can bring on compliance risks. Especially related to the client's personal data.

The cold hard truth

Everyone is worried that AI will take a human SDR's job. But when you stack the facts, it's clear to see humans aren't going anywhere.

AI SDRs should be used with SDRs and BDRs to warm up cold leads. Sellers can take back hours of outbound and research work, and zoom in, building relationships with the prospects who have real potential. As today's B2B and B2C markets become more saturated, sellers need to maximize their time, resources, and cognitive load as much as they can to hit quota. That's where AI truly streamlines the workday.

Yes, maybe you could slow future hiring opportunities. But the ratio of 1 AI SDR to 1 human should stay close to balanced in the short term. The only sellers who have to worry? Those who are AI-resistant and unwilling to learn and optimize.
